OneNet’s Network Support Engineer

It’s the laugh heard around the entire office. Knowing Arturo Berrios, OneNet’s network support engineer, means that at one point you’ve heard his infectious laugh across the building, and it’s immediately made your day a little better.

As a network support engineer, Berrios spends his time troubleshooting with customers and maintaining OneNet’s statewide network.

“I like to say that I make the internet work,” he said jokingly.

Berrios and the rest of the team at OneNet’s Network Operations Center (NOC) are the main line of help for the schools, libraries, government agencies and other service organizations OneNet connects. For many small schools and libraries, OneNet’s network team is the only technical resource available to them, making Berrios’ job critical. Being a lifeline for these organizations motivates and encourages Berrios, and working with administrators and staff at schools and libraries can sometimes be humorous.

“I’ll often get calls from schools asking for ‘Ar-cheerio’,” he said. “It gives me a good laugh, but I’m happy to help.”

The details and intricacy of maintaining the network are what drew Berrios to a job in information technology. As a person who enjoys tinkering in his free time, working to keep OneNet’s network running comes naturally to him.

“I love having the ability to gain exposure to new things through hands-on projects and assignments,” he said.

Before joining the OneNet team in February 2016, Berrios worked at the help desk for the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. He made the switch over to OneNet because he enjoyed troubleshooting and meeting new people. His familiarity with OneNet helped make the transition seamless, and his personable demeanor has been an asset to his team.

Berrios’ social personality is helpful for maintaining relationships with customers, but it also makes him a great coworker too. Like everyone else at OneNet, his favorite part of the job is the people he works with, and in return, every employee at OneNet knows that Berrios cares for and is interested in each person’s life as well.

At home, much like work, Berrios spends a lot of his time tinkering, including a few side projects in restoring furniture. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer and spending time with his wife and children.

Another little known fact about Berrios is that although he goes by Arturo, his first name is actually Luis, and he’s the ninth generation of his family to carry that name.

As a team that is responsible for helping customers in whatever ways they can, the network group is full of individuals who love both the intricacy and the interaction their jobs bring, and Berrios fits nicely within the team. With his genuinely upbeat personality, customers and coworkers can’t help but enjoy his company.

So if you’re looking for a quick laugh and encouragement, just spend five minutes with Berrios.

“Will you also tell everyone I love baking muffins?” he jokingly added. “Because if I did, that would make me the muffin man, and that’s pretty cool.”
