Happy Holidays 2024 from OneNet!
Dear Loyal OneNet Friend,
“Happy Holidays!” to OneNet’s subscribers, partners, vendors and supporters! Our leadership team expresses our appreciation for your ongoing support of our mission to advance research and education in communities across Oklahoma. High-speed, affordable connectivity is vital to digital inclusion efforts for the organizations we serve in research, education, health care and government services.
Going Gig
Bandwidth requirements are increasing for the subscribers OneNet serves and many are going Gig – 1G or higher bandwidth. OneNet now provides 495 circuits at 1G or higher for our subscribers. Our largest subscriber group going Gig is K-12 schools. We have 180 schools with 1G to 30G circuits. Putnam City Schools currently has the largest K-12 circuit at 30G. Our higher education institutions are also seeing increasing bandwidth requirements, with some as high as 100G circuits. OneNet continues to invest in our network, so we can meet future bandwidth requirements for our subscribers.
OFFN Continues to Grow!
OneNet received our fifth National Science Foundation grant to add campuses to the OneOklahoma Friction Free Network. OFFN is a dedicated research network that provides high-speed data transfer for research computing. OFFN also provides access to supercomputing resources for smaller higher education institutions that don’t have these resources on their campuses. After we complete all of the NSF-funded projects, 30 higher education locations will connect to the OFFN network. These connections advance research such as agriculture, biology, chemistry, economics, engineering, geology, manufacturing, natural resources, nursing and STEM.
OCAN CAI Collaborations
This year marks the 11th year of service for the Oklahoma Community Anchor Network. OCAN delivers high-speed services to 35 Oklahoma counties. OneNet appreciates each of the 93 community anchor institutions that are part of the network. Many CAIs also serve as hubsites for the network. This summer, OneNet leadership met with 15 higher education campuses that serve as hubsites to improve our collaborations. OCAN is also important to private providers, who utilize the network to expand their services into communities across the state, providing high-speed broadband for residents and businesses.
Intern Program Shines
OneNet’s intern program continues to shine! We’ve hosted 26 student interns since 2013. Students from nine colleges and universities have participated in the program. Currently interns contribute to our strategic communications department through graphic design, writing, social media outreach and website management. OneNet’s interns go on to success in marketing or public relations positions, law school or graduate studies, or even working for OneNet and the State Regents.
As we wrap-up 2024, we want to recognize the work our subscribers do in Oklahoma’s communities, small and large. Your services are invaluable and improve the lives of those you serve. We hope to continue providing the highest level of service to support your missions in 2025.
On behalf of OneNet’s team members, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and the very best in the new year.
